Turkish Journal of ZoologyLevel of Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) in Resistant and Susceptible Strains of Culicine Mosquitoes of the Karachi Region after Treatment with DDT, Malathion and CyfluthrinToxicology Laboratory, Department of Zoology, University of Karachi, Karachi-75270, PAKISTAN Abstract: The effects of Malathion, Cyfluthrin, and DDT were observed on the activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in susceptible and resistant strains of culicine mosquitoes. Biochemical estimation (colorimetry) revealed a remarkable increase in the enzyme activity in Culex fatigans (L.Y. strain). In contrast, in Culex fatigans (G.I. strain) and Culex fatigans (K.U strain), inhibition of enzyme activity was found after treatment with pesticides. Key Words: Malathion, Cyfluthrin, DDT, LDH, Mosquito larvae
