Specific and infraspecific epithets in P.H. Davis' Flora of Turkey

Abstract: The examination of specific and infraspecific epithets given in P.H. DavisŐ Flora of Turkey reveals that grammatically the great majority are adjectives, participles and nouns. Very rarely we see as an epithet a verb, pronoun, interjection or another kind of word. The sum of adjectives and participles forms 70 % of the total. Information on adjectival and substantival epithets, on their orthographic variations and origins is given. An index of the Turkish botanists whose names have been used as epithets is added.
